Presenters
Tyler Hickle is a solo practitioner in Austin, Texas. His practice focuses on consumer law, particularly the interactions between landlord-tenant and debt collection. He frequently sues apartment debt collectors for violations of state and federal law. He graduated from Texas A&M University and has a law degree from Indiana University – Bloomington.
Hans Lodge is senior counsel at Berger Montague, leading the firm’s individual FCRA practice. Hans assists consumers who have been denied jobs or housing due to inaccurate criminal history information reporting in their employment and tenant screening background check reports.
Chelsea Ortega is a partner in the law firm of Santoni, Vocci & Ortega, LLC. She regularly defends consumers and brings affirmative claims for violations of Maryland’s consumer protection statutes and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act in debt collection cases, including landlord/tenant cases, automobile deficiencies, and predatory loans.
Thomas Papson is a Volunteer Staff Attorney in the Consumer Law Unit of Legal Aid DC, in Washington, DC, where he regularly represents former tenants in rental debt collection actions. He was heavily involved in the recent reforms to DC’s debt collection laws, which imposes strict pleading and documentation requirements on landlords and debt collectors seeking to collect rental debt.
Jane Santoni is a partner in the firm of Santoni, Vocci & Ortega, LLC in Towson, MD. She has thirty-two years of trial experience handling personal injury cases and over seventeen years of trial experience handling consumer protection matters. Her primary practice areas include landlord/tenant violations, debt collection abuses, bail bond violations, car fraud, and credit reporting errors.
Matt Vocci is a partner at Santoni, Vocci & Ortega, LLC. The majority of his work relates in some way to housing. He represents tenants against landlords and property managers on a variety of cases, such as consumer protection and consumer debt collection issues, habitability, Fair Housing Act violations, illegal evictions, and personal injuries.
