A bill in Congress, H.R. 5112, would repeal the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau's authority to stop abusive acts and practices in consumer finance by striking the prohibition on abusive acts and practices from the U.S. Code.  NACA and other organizations, under the umbrella of Americans for Financial Reform, urged Congress to oppose this bill and other similar legislation that would dramatically undermine the CFPB by eliminating its authority to prohibit abusive acts and practices and by imposing unworkable procedural requirements that would make it effectively impossible for the CFPB to write critical rules.

NACA has signed on to a letter urging the CFPB to enact a strong national payday lending rule to protect consumers from debt-trap lending.

NACA joined with other organizations on a letter to oppose a harmful and unnecessary bill, H.R. 3624, the Fraudulent Joinder Prevention Act. It "would upend long established law in the area of federal court jurisdiction, place unreasonable burdens on the federal judiciary, and make it more difficult for Americans to enforce their rights in state courts."

NACA submitted comments in response to the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) request for public comment on the Holder Rule. As part of NACA’s mission to serve as a voice for its members and consumers in the ongoing struggle to curb unfair or abusive business practices that affect consumers, we urged the Commission to preserve the Holder Rule, to reiterate its key features and remedies available to consumers, and to consider our recommendations to facilitate effective application of the rule.

NACA joins organizations on a letter opposing Section 3 of H.R. 1927, the Fairness in Class Action Litigation and Furthering Asbestos Claim Transparency Act of 2015. The House of Representatives is scheduled to vote on this legislation during the week of January 4, 2016.
