Presenters
Ahmad Keshavarz established his law firm, The Law Office of Ahmad Keshavarz, in 2000. The majority of his practice is devoted to filing FDCPA lawsuits holding debt collectors accountable for executing on vacated or sewer service judgments; seizing exempt social security or unemployment benefits; suing tenants for rent not owed; or suing on behalf of family members of nursing home residents for nursing home debt they do not owe.
April Kuehnhoff is a staff attorney in the National Consumer Law Center’s Boston office, where she advocates for fair debt collection. She is the co-author of NCLC’s Fair Debt Collection and a contributing author to Surviving Debt.
Brent Lattin is managing counsel in the Office of Regulations at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, where he has worked since 2015.
Alexis Lehmann is an attorney at Francis Mailman Soumilas, P.C., who represents individual consumers’ rights under the FCRA and the FDCPA. Alexis is also an active member on the Executive Board for the Justice Rising Advocates.
Hans Lodge is senior counsel at Berger Montague, leading the firm’s individual FCRA practice. Hans assists consumers who have been denied jobs or housing due to inaccurate criminal history information reporting in their employment and tenant screening background check reports.
Chelsea Ortega is a partner in the law firm of Santoni, Vocci & Ortega, LLC. She regularly defends consumers and brings affirmative claims for violations of Maryland’s consumer protection statutes and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act in debt collection cases, including landlord/tenant cases, automobile deficiencies, and predatory loans.
Kari Rudd is a senior attorney in the consumer protection unit at Bay Area Legal Aid, representing low-income consumers throughout the San Francisco Bay Area in cases involving a variety of debt and credit issues.
Jane Santoni is a partner in the firm of Santoni, Vocci & Ortega, LLC in Towson, MD. She has thirty-two years of trial experience handling personal injury cases and over seventeen years of trial experience handling consumer protection matters. Her primary practice areas include landlord/tenant violations, debt collection abuses, bail bond violations, car fraud, and credit reporting errors.
Shelley Thompson is a counsel in the Office of Regulations, specifically working on regulatory implementation and guidance issues.
