NACA Statement on Announced Resignation of CFPB Deputy Director Leandra English

Today, Leandra English, former deputy director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), announced her resignation from the federal agency, citing the recent formal nomination for CFPB director.

Below is the statement of Christine Hines, Legislative Director, National Association of Consumer Advocates (NACA):

“We thank Leandra English for her willingness to stand up and lead the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau at a critical time. The CFPB has been barely recognizable over the past seven months, currently operating without a confirmed director and with an interim leader hostile to the agency’s mission. The bureau needs a permanent director who will champion and support its work to protect ordinary people from financial abuses, deception, discrimination and fraud. Now that a formal nominee to lead the agency has been named, the U.S. Senate must ensure, before confirmation, that she or any other it may consider, has a demonstrated record of pursuing and securing fair and safe treatment of consumers in the financial marketplace.”
