A Reception to Present an Award to a Congressional Consumer Justice Champion
NACA and NCLC are extremely pleased to have the opportunity to honor Representative Hank Johnson (D-Ga.) in his home state of Georgia for his longstanding commitment and work to preserve and defend access to justice for all consumers and workers.
Rep. Johnson has long been known in our consumer protection community for his dedication and unrelenting effort to pass a law that would eliminate the use of pre-dispute forced arbitration clauses in the terms and conditions of products and services, and (non-labor) employment contracts.
Since 2007, Rep. Johnson has, in every congressional session, introduced legislation to end forced arbitration clauses and class action bans. Due to his leadership and persistence, the Forced Arbitration Injustice Repeal Act, for the first time passed the U.S. House of Representatives on Sept. 20, 2019 by a strong, bipartisan vote.
Most recently, in December 2023, he and Sen. Elizabeth Warren partnered in a letter to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau urging it to revisit its authority to issue a rule that would restore consumers’ ability to choose how to resolve disputes involving financial services and products after the dispute arises.
As a longtime member of the U.S. House Judiciary Committee, Rep. Johnson has served with the goal to be a champion for “the little guy,” and to level the bargaining and legal playing field between consumers and providers of products and services.
Please join us at a reception Friday, April 12 at 4 P.M. to present our Congressional Consumer Justice Champion award to Rep. Hank Johnson.
